The purposes of this Association are to:

  • A. Promote and protect the interests, rights, and welfare of the retired educators of the Stevens Point area in conjunction with the Wisconsin Retired Educators’ Association (WREA).
  • B. Monitor and work to improve the benefits for retired educators and other members of the Wisconsin Retirement System (WRS).
  • C. Encourage Association members to maintain membership in the Wisconsin Retired Educators’ Association (WREA).
  • D. Develop working relationships with local service organizations whose main emphasis is on aging groups and with organizations sharing goals similar to those of the Association.
  • E. Inform Association members about and advocate for educational and other relevant societal issues.
  • F. Inform members of activities in the area provided for senior citizens.
  • G. Encourage Association members to be active participants in community affairs on an individual basis.

The Book Sale is Coming! The Book Sale is Coming!

The Stevens Point Area Retired Teachers’ Association (SPARTA) will hold its spring book sale on the following dates at the Children’s Museum Building, 1100 Main St., Stevens Point.

Wednesday, April 25, noon to 7 p.m.
Thursday, April 26, 9 a.m. – 7 p.m.
Friday, April 27, 9 a.m. – 7 p.m.
Saturday, April 28, 9 a.m. – 2 p.m.

The sale contains more than 10,000 books. Most books are $1 or less. Children's books are 25 cents for softcover and 50 cents for hardcover. The fiction room contains hardcover and paperback fiction, and the Children's, Parenting, Teacher Materials, Large Print and Classics sections. Books across the hall in the nonfiction room are sorted into categories and this sale contains a large collection of Dungeons&Dragons and Star Wars books that can be found in the Priced area and CDs, tapes, albums, sheet music, individual DVDs and series, VHS tapes, and books on tape. Books in the Priced Area are $3 and up.

There will be a bag sale Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. with the cost of the first bag $10 and additional bags $5 apiece.

The profits are used for scholarships and grants to community organizations.
